The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor

-by Ann Marie

"The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor" is the third installment of the mummy movies.

Just like the first two movies in the set, the story line follows the O'Connell family and their adventure to stop another mummy in its tracks. However, this time the mummy comes from ancient China and Richard "Rick" O'Connell's (Brendan Fraser) son Alex O'Connell (Luke Ford) is the one to discover the mummy while working for his Professor Roger Wilson (David Calder). Meanwhile, Rick and Evelyn O'Connell (Maria Bello) were tricked into taking back an ancient Chinese artifact and instead helped resurrect the Chinese Mummy. From here the adventure begins and the O'Connells learn a valuable lesson.

Fraser and Johnathon Carnahan return to the screen with some new comers. Joining Fraser and Carnahan on screen is Maria Bello, Jet Li and Luke Ford. Bello's acting wasn't her greatest, but Li and Ford worked well on screen. There were some scene transitions that were awkward between Fraser and Bello and between Fraser and Ford.

Being the third installment of the mummy set, the movie wasn't as strong as the first two. The plot and scenes were forced on the screen, giving a sense of being detached from the storyline.

"The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor" was directed by Rob Cohen. This is the first time he has directed a mummy film, but is known for some of his other famous movies such as "Dragon: The Bruce Lee Story," "Dragonheart" and "The Fast and the Furious."

This movie would be recommended for those who want to see the last installment of the mummy set and for those who are fans of Brendan Fraser.
